Art
Hi, I’m Miss Nichols, a Year 2 teacher in my second year as an Early Career Teacher and a passionate Art Lead at Boston Pioneers. I love leading art because it allows me to inspire creativity in every child and see their confidence grow as they explore new ideas. I aim to create a vibrant, inclusive environment where imagination is celebrated, and I enjoy supporting colleagues to bring engaging, hands-on art experiences into their classrooms. For me, art is not just a subject, it’s a way to nurture curiosity, self-expression, and a lifelong love of learning.
What we are teaching in art and why it is important
Art is an important part of life at Boston Pioneers Academy. In our lessons, learners explore the world and express their ideas and feelings. They develop skills such as drawing, painting, collage, textiles, 3D design, printmaking, and digital media, while discovering different tools and techniques. Learners also learn about line, shape, tone, texture, and colour. Art helps us understand the world, share who we are, and connect with others. By looking at artworks from many cultures, pupils see that anyone can make art, and it is an essential part of life.
How we teach art
At Boston Pioneers Academy we teach art in a way that inspires curiosity and excitement in every learner. Our curriculum helps children become knowledgeable artists by exploring materials, artists, and artistic ideas that reflect their world and cultures. Lessons are hands‑on so learners can experiment, make choices, and learn through doing. We encourage learners to be curious, take creative risks, and talk confidently about their work. Art lessons are designed to build skills and creative thinking while celebrating imagination and personal expression. Through art, learners grow in confidence, feel inspired, and learn to see the world in new and meaningful ways.
