What is the sports premium?
At Pioneers Academy we believe that PE, sport and physical activity and an understanding of their links to health, supports the health and well-being, both physical and emotional, of our children.
Following on from the success of the 2012 London Olympics the government is providing additional £150 million of funding to improve provision of physical education (PE) and sport in primary schools. This funding – provided jointly by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport – will be allocated to primary schools. This funding is ring-fenced and therefore can only be spent on improving the quality and/or breadth of PE provision in schools.
Schools must spend the additional funding on improving their provision of PE, sport and physical activity but we do have considerable freedom to choose how we spend this. However, as the funding is time-limited, it is our desire to ensure that a significant part of the provision we put in place will continue to impact after the funding is gone, i.e. is sustainable.
How have we spent our funding?
