Curriculum
The next selection of pages will provide you with more information in relation to our curriculum: What we teach in each subject and why we teach it; how we teach it; and the impact it has on our learners.
Our curriculum is the powerhouse of learning at our Academy.
Rooted in the National Curriculum, it is tailored to meet the unique needs of our learners and celebrate the rich diversity of our communities. Designed to inspire, challenge, and prepare pupils for the next stage of their education, our curriculum blends expertise from our Trust, external professionals, local resources, and respected learning platforms. This ensures a clear, progressive sequence of knowledge and skills across all subjects, so every child leaves us fully “Secondary ready.”
We constantly review and refresh our curriculum to ensure that it continues to be not only appropriate, but ambitious for all of our learners.
Our Curriculum ‘Drivers’
Our bespoke curriculum is guided by five key principles. These are called ‘drivers’ as they drive not only what we teach but how and why we teach it.
| KNOWLEDGABLE | ‘Know More to Learn More’ |
| Knowledge helps our learners to make sense of the world around them. Knowledge builds knowledge because new information makes more sense when it connects to what is already known. What you’ve learned before helps you understand faster, see patterns, and remember better, making it easier to learn new things. | |
| ARTICULATE | ‘Learning the Words to Learn’ |
| Vocabulary, oracy, reading and writing are given the highest priority. Learners are explicitly taught vocabulary across all areas of learning and are given opportunities to apply this in context. It is important for our learners to be articulate because clear speaking helps them share ideas, build confidence, learn better, form relationships, and succeed at school and in everyday life. | |
| EXCITEMENT | ‘I Hear and I Forget, I See and I Remember, I Do and I Understand’ |
| We want our learners to be excited about learning. Motivation increases focus, curiosity, and effort. Hands-on experiences help learners understand concepts more deeply, remember information longer, and apply what they learn to real-life situations. | |
| CURIOUS | ‘People who are Curious Change the World’ |
| Creating curiosity within our learners is important because it motivates them to ask questions, explore ideas and enjoy learning. Curious learners are more engaged, think more deeply, and develop problem-solving skills that support lifelong learning and creativity. | |
| INSPIRED | ‘The World Beyond Boston’ |
|
We want our learners to appreciate the richness and diversity of the global community they are part of. Through the events, experiences and knowledge encountered within their learning journey, we aim to inspire them to strive for excellence.
