PE

Hello, I’m Miss Smart and I am incredibly proud to lead PE at Boston Pioneers. I have a background in PE, having studied Sport, Fitness and Wellbeing and I previously delivered PE as a sports coach. These experiences have shaped my passion for PE and the positive impact it can have on children’s physical and social development.
I love leading PE because it gives me the opportunity to inspire learners to enjoy being active, build confidence and develop lifelong healthy habits. I believe PE is more than sport, it’s about teamwork, resilience and ensuring every child feels successful and motivated to take part.
What we are teaching in PE and why it is important
At Boston Pioneers Academy, PE is essential for life because it helps us stay healthy, strong, and happy. In our lessons, we teach sports and activities that keep the body active and build lifelong healthy habits. PE also helps our pupils learn important skills for the future: teamwork, fairness, respect, and how to do their best. By taking part, pupils gain confidence, work well with others, and feel proud of what they achieve. PE isn’t just about sport - it teaches values, keeps us fit, and prepares us for a healthy, active life.
How we teach PE
At Boston Pioneers Academy, our PE lessons are taught alongside Beyond the Physical to help every learner stay active and healthy. We focus on building fitness, teamwork, confidence and respect, so pupils develop healthy habits that matter now and in the future. PE helps our children know more and do more, be confident and feel inspired to push themselves. After-school clubs are also available to all learners, giving everyone extra chances to try new activities, have fun and stay active.
What we want the children to have learnt in PE
By the end of EYFS
Learners will have learnt to explore different ways to move. They will have learnt to balance, run, jump and develop basic coordination. They will have learnt to follow instructions, respond to simple challenges and work with others by sharing and taking turns. PE with Beyond the Physical helps build a strong foundation in movement, thinking and teamwork.
By the end of KS1
Learners will have acquired skills like running, jumping, throwing and catching with more control. They will have learnt to take part in simple games, make choices and follow rules. They will have learnt to work with others, show respect and start using simple strategies. Beyond the Physical builds on EYFS learning, helping children develop skills, grow confidence and solve problems.
By the end of KS2
Learners will have learnt to combine a wide range of skills in games and activities. They will have learnt to plan and adapt strategies, solve challenges and make decisions. Learners will also be able to lead, support and motivate others, showing teamwork, respect and resilience. Beyond the Physical builds on KS1 learning, helping learners become confident, independent and ready to enjoy sport and stay active for life.
